Around 8pm 39 years ago today John and I were married. Our wedding night was spent at a hotel out by the airport because we left the next day for Honolulu and stayed at the Ilikai. My parents had purchased a package tour after John & I had attended a Don Ho concert. The only problem was that when we arrived at the hotel it was so late that we were too tired to attend the Show that night and a bimbo stopped by our room & brought some vouchers for meals. Then we found out the next day that our hotel bill was not being paid so we ended up eating all our meals at the hotel. We had to call my parents for more money. One of the ladies on the tour was related to the Seattle Police Chief so our bill, another guys and ours was paid by the time we left. But it did restrict our activities. I tried to play sleuth as I spied Don Ho every once in a while around the hotel. What was I thinking. We used to love going to the bar and listening to Joey sing & play his guitar and sip Mai Tai's.

Our kids always complain that we are a very dysfunctional family(so whose isn't.) Maybe that is true but we love each other very much and have gone through hard times financially, medical problems and all the other things that come with marriage. Our faith has kept us strong and we have a very strong commitment to each other. So I feel very blessed to have been married to such a hard working, honest, good father to our children, most of the time upbeat husband, that has stood by me at some pretty wild times.

So now because the Doc I work with is going on a sabbatical starting in Sept until the end of January I'm being moved to another position on the other side of the clinic. The Doc I work with will be back at least for 6 months after his sabbatical but there is some speculation that he will be retiring. Also when he does come back he will be working in the am and the Doc he is paired with will work in the pm. So the administration feels that the gal that works with the other Doc should stay with both Docs and I would be the logical one to move. I understand their thinking but my new Doc will be paired with a Doc who no one wants to work with. She is very needy(always asking for help in things that other Docs do for themselves) and after she sees patients she types her notes in the exam room before going on to see the next patient. This results in the fact that she is always behind and patients are not happy. I worked with her Mon & Tues and she was very rude and condescending and grabbed my arm several times which is very inappropriate. Even though I will be working with my own Doc this high strung Doc will be in the same area with me and I'm sure that I will end up having interactions with her.
I also will miss the people that I have worked with (we have so much fun) as well as hard work. they have cut back help so much that we have been rooming for more than one Doc which results in not very good patient care in my opinion. I have to change my day off, I have had Mondays since I started working with this Doc which I had to change from Wednesday when I started working with him. I would love to quit but the money is pretty good.

So last night we all went out for dinner and had a great time and then went over to Pam & Don's for cake. Then Jason, Molly, Jordan, Cheyenne, Amanda & Eric show up which made my birthday extra special and we had a good time chatting away and laughing.

We arrived home from our vacation on 5/29 and it was a fun, exhausting, interesting trip. Our traveling companions were John's sister Carole & husband Ed & their son Tim. We were on a tour in Italy and started out in Rome.

We arrived two days before the tour started and visited the Pantheon & Forum. The Pantheon is remarkable & beautiful built without any support pieces and the ceiling is magnificent. We went on a night tour of Rome which was very pretty with all the lights and even saw that the lights were on in the Vatican apartment signifying that the Pope was in residence. We left on our tour & headed toward Pompeii where we had a local guide take us on a tour of the excavations and continued on to Sorrento where we visited an Inlaid Wood Factory which had beautiful furniture and I especially liked their jewelry boxes.

Then we headed out to a very choppy sea crossing across the Bay of Naples to the beautiful island of Capri for two nights. When we landed we took a tram to the top of the island and the views were breathtaking, the narrow cobblestone streets wound down to our hotel and the path was lined with expensive boutiques like Channel, Prada and Valentino to name a few. According to our guide Capri is a favorite haunt of Sarah Jessica Parker's & the international jet set. I was not as interested in the shops as the view's of the quaint white stucco houses with flat roofs sprinkled along the hillside. The hills were topped with huge rocks and high up on the cliff we could see cars and buses driving along the mediterranean sea. We also got a chance to drive along the Amalfi coast which gave us a gorgeous view of the sea.

We sailed back across the Mediterranean and drove through Naples into the Umbrian hills to mystical Assisi. We enjoyed a tour of St. Francis Basilica. There was a young girl Claire who loved St. Francis but of course since he was a Priest nothing could ever come of her infatuation. She had beautiful long blonde hair & he cut her hair and ordered her to start the
the order of the Poor Claires' which she did. There is another church dedicated to Claire called the Church of St. Mary of the Angels although it is located away from St. Francis Basilica as they could not be close together. There is another story that St. Francis went through a difficult time and threw himself on a bed of roses in the garden which is part of his church. Expecting to be cut by the thorns the thorns disappeared & the roses that have grown there since & are thorn less. There are also doves in the garden that are there to this day.

More later

We are enjoying having Amanda back on the west coast. Even though she is living with us temporarily (that's right Amanda) it's fun with her around, listening to her aspirations and stories about NYC or just what happened during the day. I think that it's great that she and Molly and Jason have such a good relationship or at least they put up a good front. (ha ha)

We are in the final stages of planning our vacation to Italy and Ireland. We will be traveling with John's sister and brother-in-law and their son Tim will be with us in Italy. We are on a tour in Italy but on our own in Ireland. John and Carole's father was born in Athlone, Ireland so we will be visiting the places where he grew up and they have a cousin who still lives there.

I think that I'm just as excited to be going on the trip as I am to be away from work for almost a month. Our workplace has turned into a zoo. They are not calling in extra help so we are double rooming (Putting in patients for two Docs.) Of course there is still all the other work that we normally do. We are expected to run as fast as we can and I think that the patient care is compromised. Some of the Docs don't understand and their expectations are unreasonable. I would love to work three days a week instead of the four that I'm working now.

Since Amanda missed her flight on 12/22 she was lucky to get on another flight the next night. It sure was good to see her, we talked for a while and then went to bed. Christmas Eve was busy and John and I went to church and then over to Pam and Don's for dinner. Jason and Amanda went over to Mollys.' Christmas was kind of crazy since we got our plans mixed up and everyone had a different idea of when we were going to open up presents. The kids wanted to come over early and Amanda wanted to go to Goofey's and watch the Packer's game. Sounds like a typical Sloane misunderstanding. Anyhow we had a good Christmas in spite of it all. Dorinda and Andy came by on Monday on their way back home and we played a game and then we were off to get a family picture taken. I had to work on Tuesday and Amanda went down to visit her friend Sarah down in Puallup. Wednesday she went to lunch with Leanne and I worked and Thursday I had the day off so we went to lunch with Leanne and then went to see The Family Stone which was very enjoyable. Then we did some shopping and later went to dinner at Hooters because it was Jordan's birthday and that's where he wanted to go. Too much noise and T&A for us old folk. Amanda, Molly, Leanne and Jason went out later that night and we watched Cheyenne. Jordan had a couple of friends over to spend the night.
Yesterday Amanda started packing and Molly and the kids and Jason came over and they said their goodbyes. John and I drove Amanda and Leanne to the airport to catch their 7:30 pm flight to Vegas. It was difficult to say goodbye I hope that we will be able to see Amanda before next Christmas, a year is so long. Amanda called us last night before 11pm to say that they had reached their hotel. I hope they have a great time!

1. My co-workers are now calling me Mama Sloane, I'm not sure if this is complementary or not.

2. To let off steam one of my co-workers and I do a little dance every once in a while in the back hall when no one is looking.

3. On the drive home we play the liar game. One person says liar and then the other says liar a little louder and back and forth and both of us are trying to keep a straight face until we are screaming at the top of our lungs. It sure beats road rage.

4. I guess I have a phobia about driving. I didn't used to but somehow it has enveloped my psyche.

5.I have a lot of high anxiety about numerous things.

I really don't have anyone to tag so whoever wants to be tagged go for it.

The last couple of days have been days from hell at work. Yesterday this woman comes in that has URI(chest congestion.) She needs a nebulizer treatment. Since I am an MA they have decided that we can't set them up because you have to pour the med in a container even though it comes in a measured tube that you just break the top off & pour in. I've been doing them for years. So I have to scout around for an LPN. Then after the treatment which takes about 15 minutes th patient needs to get an xray. After she returns the Dr. requests that she have another Tx. By this time all the LPN's have gone home so I enlisted the help of an RN who had not done nebulizers in a long time. Anyhow I didn't get out of there til almost 6pm.

Today the morning wasn't too bad as I blocked off a couple of regular appts. they always have same day appts. The afternoon was another story. We had a double book that was an OTJ (workmans compensation) which always takes a long time, plus she had an interpreter with her. Then toward the end of the day we get a 400 lb + woman that complains after waiting 10 minutes, most of our patients wait 30 to 45 min. if the Dr. gets behind which happens frequently. It was not fun trying to get her blood pressure and I had to take her to a scale in another cluster that would take her weight. Then I had an Alzheimers patient that hadn't spoken in 4 years, poor thing and her ex-husband. she had a red, rash over her body. The ex didn't bring her medication list so it took a while to track that down from the group home where she lives. She was in a wheelchair and I took her down to the treatment center to get some IV antibiotics and blood work. I helped lift her on the bed, I took her feet and the RN took her under the shoulders, but the RN got her jacket hooked onto the wheelchair. My back is very sore. Thank goodness it's the weekend. There must be an easier way to make a living.
